Wayne Sorensen started SVL Analytical in 1972. Wayne has more than 40 years of direct experience with rock, water and soil analysis for the mining industry. Wayne has a BS in Chemistry from Utah State University (1962).
Nan S. Wilson
President & CEO
Nan Wilson took over the family business in 2017. Nan’s laboratory experience includes positions from technician to quality, analyst and chemist, methods development and GLP pharma. Nan has a BA in Chemistry and Russian from Willamette University (1996).
John Kern has 35 years of laboratory experience and has managed and directed laboratories in the medical, pharmaceutical and environmental industries. John has a BS in Biochemistry from Eastern Michigan University (1978) and a MS in Chemistry from Montana State University (1982).
Laboratory Technical Director
Kirby Gray has 33 years of experience in laboratory operations with regard to water and soils analysis for the mining industry. Kirby has a BS in Geological Engineering from University of Idaho (1972). He is well-versed in all of the instrumental techniques (ICP, ICP-MS, CVAA, AA, etc.) used in the environmental analysis laboratory. Kirby is the lead chemist for CLP and CLP-Like reporting. Kirby enjoys camping, bicycling and photography.
Coeur d’Alene Lab Manager/Microbiologist
Linda Johann has 40 years of experience in Microbiology—both in environmental and public health (medical) arenas. Linda held positions at the bench and as supervisor for the Idaho State Public Health Laboratory in Coeur d’ Alene. She has a BA in Psychology and Chemistry from the University of Minnesota (1970). She is manager and analyst for the Coeur d’ Alene Lab; a section of SVL specializing in biological analyses.
Quality Assurance Manager
Michael Desmarais has 15 years of experience in the environmental analysis field. Michael has held positions both at the bench and in the field in environmental chemistry. He has a BS in Physical Science from Washington State University (1995). Michael is a participating member of NELAC and is responsible for the administration of the SVL Quality Program.
Brandan Borgias has a PhD in chemistry from the University of California-Berkeley (1985). He has been with SVL Analytical since 1991, holding positions as Quality Manager and Systems Manager. Brandan currently oversees the lab’s Information Management System (LIMS) and works with clients on custom reporting and electronic deliverables.
Business Development Manager
Dave Waisman spent more than 16 years in precious and base metals exploration as a geologist before coming to work at SVL. Dave has a BS in Geology from Colorado State University (1979) and an MS in Geology from the University of Montana (1985). Dave is primarily responsible for sales and understands the environmental concerns of the mining industry.
Client Services Manager
Chris Meyer has more than 30 years experience with SVL. She is responsible for communicating with clients when establishing projects to ensure project specifications are met and for the majority of project oversight once samples are received for analysis. Chris started her career at SVL as a lab technician. Her experience in the laboratory environment has made her knowledgeable in regard to testing and analytical requirements. She has also visited several mine sites and works closely with environmental managers which enhances her understanding of the mining industry.
Classical Chemistry Supervisor
Classical Chemistry Department Supervisor Dianne Gardner has 13 years of environmental laboratory experience at SVL. Her first 7 years were spent in both the Classical and Instrument departments (Cyanide, ICP, ICP-MS, GFAA). She has served as the Classical Chemistry supervisor for 6 years. Dianne graduated with a BA in Chemistry from Cedarville College (1987).
Heather Green has 8 years of experience in the environmental analysis field. Heather graduated from the University of Idaho (2009) with a BS in Microbiology. She began her professional career at SVL right out of college. Since then, Heather has gained thorough experience in a wide variety of wet chemistry procedures. Heather’s analytical and supervisory skills have allowed her to cross train in several departments to best serve SVL’s clients.
Instrumental Chemistry Supervisor
Danny Sevy has 30 years of analytical experience at SVL. His experience includes various classical chemistry analytical methods, development of the ion chromatography analysis at SVL, and the inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and optical emission spectroscopy analyses. With his knowledge and experience, Danny has proven himself a valuable asset to SVL and our customers.
Laboratory Information Management System Chemist
Kale Swainston earned a BS in Chemistry from Utah State University (1998). He has held positions at the chemistry bench and in front of the keyboard. Kale joined SVL in 2005; since then he has helped implement and maintain the laboratory information management system, design and customize laboratory software applications, and provide analytical method development support.
Sample Receiving Supervisor
Crystal Sevy knows the ins and outs of sample custody, preservation, and documentation. Over 12 years in sample receiving she has seen it all. Together with her team, Crystal works to ensure that samples are ready to analyze and documentation is complete.
Document Control Officer
Melba has 30 years of experience in laboratory document control. She prepares CLP-like data packages, reviews reports, prepares the invoicing, and emails EDD’s and PDF reports to all our clients. She is an expert in the data reporting needs of our clients.
